This past weekend, I helped throw a baby shower for my cousin Jessica. This "Feather Her Nest" shower began with the invitation. When I designed Jessica's wedding invitation, she requested it have two little birds on it dressed as a bride and groom. We carried the birds over into the the baby shower theme with a nest containing a single egg. I made a sketch of the nest and my spectacularly talented friend Carolyn designed the invitation from there.
We had the shower at Amelie's French Bakery in NoDA- you may remember it from this previous post. I love Amelie's for many reasons, but especially for the feeling you get when you walk through the doors. It feels warm and inviting, but has the feeling of a French consignment store. I LOVE it.
We ordered some special treats from Amelie's - how can you go there without eating some of their amazing pastries? And we brought in some special treats like raspberries filled with bittersweet chocolate and white chocolate morsels, sun-dried tomato cheesecake served with crostini, sweet cream cheese filled strawberries, spanakopita, faux champagne punch and mimosa punch.
After everyone had a chance to fill a plate, Jessica started to unwrap her gifts. Every guest was asked to bring in a customized onesie that represented their relationship with the mother-to be. She had to guess who had brought which onesie. The onesie game added a lot of laughter to the gift opening.
I loved the diaper bag she received. You can see it here.
