Garage Girls: Workout #16

Today marks one month of Garage Girls!!!!   And today, we get to redo our benchmark workout to see how much we have improved.  I am actually super excited to see the results, and I would love to hear some of your results if you have been working out along with us.  There are six women working out of the garage right now, and it has been really inspiring to see all of the progress that has been made in such a short amount of time.  So here we go...

     Warm-up:

     50 jumping jacks

Workout: (3 rounds for time) 8-10-12

      1st round- 8 box jumps, 8 air squats, 8 sit-ups, run 400m
      2nd round- 10 box jumps, 10 air squats, 10 sit-ups, run 400m
      3rd round- 12 box jumps, 12 air squats, 12 sit-ups, run 400m

     Also:  record

     # of air squats you can do in one min.
     # of sit-ups in one min.
     # of push-ups in one min.

Have fun : )

***UPDATE***
Here are some results- I cut 8 minutes and 22 seconds off my original time for the workout.  For the one minutes tests, I went from 55 air squats to 62 in one minute, 27 sit-ups to 32 in one minute and 33 push-ups to 46 in one minute. Very pleased withe these results, but I am already looking forward to seeing how I do next month when we do this workout again : )

the angenuity 31 day photo challenge

***just realized that I listed "horizon" twice on the challenge.  Please replace the second one (on the 27th) with "above".

I am starting this 31 day photo challenge on August 1st.    I have never done a photo challenge before so I am super excited.  If you would like to take this journey with me, email me a photo for the day's challenge, and I will post a few of them on the blog.  I am going to have a three day turn around, so everyone who would like to participate can do so.  I realized...after the look that Jason gave me...that a three day turn-around was an awful idea : )   I will be posting the pictures the next day.  Expect August 1st's photo challenge to be posted on August 4th.

You can send your photos to -  angenuityblog@gmail.com or share it on my facebook page which you can find here

For those of you who have never done, or heard of, a photo challenge, here are a few tips on how to get started:  For each day, take a photo of the subject listed above. Interpret the day's subject as you wish. Use your digital camera, phone, iPad - whatever you choose.  And then email the photo to me or share it on my facebook page .

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with : )

Artist Spotlight: Lisa Kellner

When I first saw Lisa Kellner's work, I could not take my eyes off of it.  These images are undoubtedly beautiful, but evoke an unsettling feeling for me.  There are endless possibilities of what she could be representing in her work, but what I love most, is that I see something different every time I look at it.  Made of silk, these very organic sculptures feel a bit threatening as they seem to grow out of spaces, spreading across walls and ceilings and overflowing onto the floor.

"Rooted in the language of decay, erosion and disease, [her] work merges intricate microcosms with immense topographies.  In all of [her] work there is an awareness of location (whether a centimeter wide area on the body or an aerial view of earth) that facilitates the exploration of place and its emotive aspects."

Summer Hair Series: the messy chignon

source

I LOVE this hairstyle! And I LOVE that there are so many variations!  I think we all grew up thinking of a chignon as the "banana bun"...a twist that was pinned vertically to our heads.  Well, the chignon has evolved into a multitude of different looks.  Definitely going to be wearing a chignon this week.   Hopefully, it will be a tad easier than the waterfall braid : )

The great thing about the chignon is that it looks like it is virtually impossible to mess up.  Each one looks entirely different.  You can find a couple different tutorials here and here.
