Summer Hair Series: Ombre Hair

source

Today is the last installment of the Summer Hair Series...and I have chosen to highlight the "ombre" technique.  "Ombre" literally means gradation in French accounting for the transition from dark roots to light tips.  Now, this hairstyle requires more commitment than a "top-knot" or "waterfall braid", but I LOVE it, and I am seriously thinking about look #5.  Fall is coming, and I know I will be wearing my hair down even more, so why not make an impression?  I may not have the nerve...or wardrobe...to successfully rock a blue, or pink ombre, but I think I could swing a caramel to mahogany transition.  We'll see...and if I make the plunge, I will share : )

Summer Hair Series: Beach Waves

source

This Summer, I have focused on different ways to put up my hair simply because I do not like being hot...and I have a ridiculous hair-twirling habit that I really need to break. Taking inspiration from the beach, this week's Summer Hair Series is featuring epic "beach waves"- no better way to stretch out the Summer a little more, than looking like you just stepped off the sand.

Summer Hair Series: short hair...I feel I have ignored you

Even though some of the hairstyles from the Summer Hair Series could be done on short hair, I feel like I should address all of the new options out there for those of you who have short hair.  These styles range from romantic...to cute... to messy... to retro... to funky and ...I love them all.  I may even be reconsidering a haircut : )

Summer hair series: the high ponytail

The "ponytail".  I know I started this Summer Hair Series to try and avoid the ponytail, but I am heading to the beach next week, and I have to be realistic- a ponytail will happen at some point during the week.  Might as well be prepared : )

As an on-the-go mom, the ponytail is my standard hairstyle.  But, I can honestly say that it never looks stylish...it looks convenient.  So here are a few pointers that make all  the difference ...wearing it high, teasing the ends OR wearing them extremely smooth, covering the hair-tie OR pick one that is visually interesting...and never...never loop your hair back through so the ends stick up like turkey feathers...something I am extremely guilty of doing throughout the summer...and maybe even throughout the year : )

Summer hair series: the braided bun

source

Something I wore almost every day as a child has suddenly become extremely complicated.  Who knew that a braid could be done so many ways, or could be so intricate?  The trend right now seems to be to braid at the crown of your head and wrap it into a bun, or braiding your hair into several different braids, twisting them into individual buns at the nape of the neck.  I love this look - I never realized how many hairstyle options are out there that do not involve a hair dryer, curling iron or even hair spray.
