A Saturday Song...

After getting used to solitude in my house for the past two weeks, yesterday was full of activity.  My best friend Courtney picked me up, and we went to a walk-a-thon where she proceeded to push me in my wheelchair for 4 miles- great workout for her and I got to enjoy the scenery and the conversation : )  Then my wonderful neighbor, Monica, picked the girls and I up and took us to happy hour at Starbucks- half-priced frappacinos for everyone! And finally, after Jason got home we went and met my brother-in-law and nephews out for dinner. Overall, it was a GREAT day and I love everyone for helping me get out of this house!

We are heading to a family reunion on my dad's side today, and it looks like it will be a beautiful day for it!

A Saturday Song...

We have jumped right into Spring cleaning this morning.  Jason climbed to the very top of our house to replace a piece of flashing that blew off in a windstorm last week.  I couldn't look! Heights are not my favorite thing : / Now, he is power-washing the house, and I am in the middle of deep cleaning the downstairs.  Normally, I would be sad that I am not out enjoying this beautiful weather, but I have every window open and the breeze is filling the house.  My favorite candles are burning and my favorite music is playing. Feeling pretty good right now : )

I am excited about this weekend.  We don't have anything planned, but I am excited nonetheless.  It is going to be a beautiful day! And even though I was only away from the girls for one weekend, I am excited to have a couple days with them, where I don't have to be saying "hurry" and let's go" : )

A Saturday Song...

Being inside today is a crime.  It's beautiful outside.  The girls and I have already been riding around town with the windows down, singing this song at the top of our lungs.  These are the days, that everything seems to be odd...and perfect at the same time.

Back at home now...windows all raised and the most beautiful breeze is filling the house. The girls are breaking world records on the rope swing...and everything feels right.

A Saturday Song...

Earlier this week, I saw this video, and I have not been able to get this song out of my head. I loved it before, but now whenever I hear it, I see little Jackson's sweet face as he "feels" music for the first time. I have one of those sweet souls living with me right now, and I would not change her for the world.  I still remember the first time I saw my Ava feel a song.  It amazes me even now, when I think back on it.

The snow has all melted, and we are back to 50 degree days here in Charlotte.  This weekend still feels a little lazy though.  That may be one reason for this early afternoon Saturday Song instead of an early morning one.

A Saturday Song...

Today, I am photographing my oldest friend and her beautiful family.  I am very excited to be able to visit with her and see her sweet kiddos : )  Now, I just have to think of some creative ways to combat the cold that seems to be determined to stick around this weekend.  

North Carolinians have lamented not having a true Winter for years. I think we may be paid back this year...big time : )

A Saturday Song...

Plans have changed quickly this weekend.  As of yesterday evening, I thought I would be in a different city doing something completely different.  Rain can do that sometimes.  There is something depressing waking up on a Saturday and realizing that you are going to spend the day in a state ranging between damp and drenched.  The funny thing is to see how you and your kids view rain in two completely different ways.  The girls step outside and immediately find a puddle to jump in...and I run from one point to the next as quickly as possible : )   Maybe I will try to adopt their attitude today.

A Saturday Song...

2014

...a new year...

and I wait with bated breath to see what it will bring. 

I don't know...but I am strangely optimistic : )

Looking back on 2013, I realize the roller coaster of emotions I have experienced this past year- amazing highs and some very tremendous lows. I find myself wondering if I would give up the highs, if I could escape the lows.  Still undecided on that one.

One thing is for sure.  As soon as you think you know where your life is leading you, a detour is put in your path.  You might think you know how you will react to that detour, but you actually have no idea.  And sometimes the challenges you encounter teach you more about what's important in life than any of the good times.

Here's to 2014...to what is sure to be an amazing year...and to the first Saturday song of the new year-

A Saturday Song...

Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier each year.  We are heading to our first family gathering this morning. Food is in the oven, presents are being packed into the car and the girls are flooding the house with Christmas carols. With all of this commotion, I find myself sneaking off to my office listening to a couple of MY favorite Christmas songs...ones that don't come along with claymation characters : )

A couple Thanksgiving dinners...one newly crowned eight year old...one vertically challenged Christmas tree...and a few health scares later...and we are all still standing.  Amazingly.  To say that the last couple months have been challenging would be an understatement.  But I have learned that in the midst of our greatest challenges, come the sweetest moments.

Today is grey...and cloudy...and it completely does not look like it will be the 66 degrees the weather man promised.  No matter...a busy day and weekend is ahead of us.  I have two photo shoots today and Jason has some big plans for the girls...which inevitably will include climbing something : )

This weekend kicks off the craziness that is November.  Every year, November sneaks up on me...and every year, I am exhausted at the end of it.  I am headed to a five hour long photo shoot this morning, while Jason and the girls go rock climbing.  If we have to dive right into November, this is a great way to do it : )

I am getting ready to take my two lovely girls to get a bagel...and maybe a coffee for me, and then we are going to sit in the sun and they are going to tell me all about the trials and tribulations of being a 5 year old and 7 year old.

A Saturday Song...

I had a plan for today, but it wasn't meant to be.  Even before I opened my eyes, the day was taking a direction I had not expected.  Best laid plans...it's often the things that mess up our day that are the most memorable.  It's how we handle these unexpected moments that determine whether the day will be a good one or not.  I have chosen to laugh at the calamity of events that started before I woke up...and with each new, ridiculous screw-up...I will laugh.  Because what else is there to do ?
