A Post-It Romance...

I was reading through some of the most amazing love letters last night...letters written by Beethoven, Napolean, Charlie Parker, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Rockwell Kent...to name a few.  With today being Valentine's Day, I was inspired to share some of the sentiments in these love letters with the people of downtown Charlotte.  I wrote out little snippets of these letters on heart-shaped post-its and "posted" them all around town.

I imagine someone going through the monotonous routine of daily life...standing at a light...waiting for it to change...when they glance up and see "...to me so infinitely lovely that to be near you, to see you, hear you, is now the only happiness, the only life, I know"...and I think their day will change a little.  How could it not?  If just one of those post-its inspires a a little romance on this very special day...then I will consider it a job well done.  Share the LOVE : )

Picture it

Ok, so not many of us have bare white walls above our beds, but I am sure there is a spot you can swing this idea.  I think that hanging a mini version of this at their office or inside their cube or on their computer screen would be very sweet.  

Kid-friendly valentines

I don't know about you, but I have gotten a wee bit tired of the cartoon character valentines the kids inevitably pick out at the store.  I have been on the look out for some kid-friendly valentines, so I was so happy to find these sweet and adorable valentines from Pumpkins and Posies. Paper Heart Garland

You can't get more simple than this.  Strips of 1" paper transformed into festive heart garlands.  I think these would be soooo cute and such a sweet surprise hung up in the kids' doorways on Valentines' Day morning.  Look here for step-by-step instructions.

Valentine Mailboxes

Every year, I try to do something different for the girls for Valentine's Day.  Last year, I made Valentine's Day buckets, but this year, I LOVE the idea of every family member having their own personal mailboxes to receive valentines.  Hop on over to the Anderson Crew to see the full tutorial.

Couch Picnic

I am absolutely in LOVE with this idea.  My all-time favorite Valentine's Day with Jason was when we stayed at home, had a late night dinner of fondu on a blanket while watching "Zombieland".  It was a CRAZY combination of things, but hilarious and fun.

K.I.S.S. for Valentine's Day...

Valentine's Day is often overdone, so... Keep It Simple and Smart.

For teachers... or a good friend... or someone you know who needs a pick-me-up...

  

...go for a small bouquet in a charming vase...

 ...or buy some cool jars and fill them with an assortment of your "favorite things"...

...or give a pretty plant in a decorative pot to brighten a windowsill.

It doesn't have to be elaborate...simple is beautiful. 

For your little ones...

  Both of my girls have read How Full Is Your Bucket? in school this year.  So I thought a bucket filled with some of their favorite things would be a wonderful surprise. 

I found these pink buckets at IKEA for $2.99.

 Drill parallel holes into either side of the bucket...

 ...and tie a ribbon through the holes.

 Tie a bow separately and sew it onto the middle of the ribbon.

 I picked up some things from the dollar bin at Michaels (great resource for your kids' gifts) - a journal with coordinating pencils, pen, and clothespins that I glued magnets onto for their artwork.  A birdhouse for them to paint, a pedicure kit and a bottle of their favorite fingernail polish and a picture frame to put a family photo in.  (I try to keep both Valentine's Day and Easter not geared towards candy.) 

 I also found these paper purses that I thought were adorable. 

 I tied a bow and super-glued it to the purse...

 ...And then filled them with a couple different sweets.

Fill the bucket up with all of the treats and then hang it in their room to find on the morning of Valentine's Day.

How can you tell when you are loved?  

Does it take someone speaking the words?  

or someone embracing you in a hug?

What if you could tell someone who has lived most of their days, that they will be loved for the rest of them?

 What if you could remind someone that they should not consider themselves lucky if they are loved?

What if you could tell anyone who feels lost that there is someone out there trying to find them?

What if you do nothing?
