Blythe dolls: Cute or creepy?

source

I am still undecided about this one.

I saw the doll above on Pinterest and fell in love.  I think she is ADORABLE and so original!  I instantly thought...I have got to find out where I can get this doll for the girls.  So...I did a little digging.  And I quickly found out that I can't buy this doll anywhere.  This doll along with many, many, many other dolls like her are called Blythe dolls.

The Blythe doll was created in 1972 and only sold for a year.  In 2000, this unpopular doll made a resurgence in Japan, loved for it's miniature body and over-sized head.  Now the Blythe is being produced again overseas and it's popularity has grown exponentially in the United States.  Hundreds of collectors and hobbyists are buying vintage and new Blythe dolls to create their own visions.  It is truly amazing to see the dedication and patience needed to transform these little dolls.

Some of the transformations I came across were awkward in a very vulnerable and sweet way...

...and some were a bit creepy in a "Carrie"-ish way

source

 I saw some twins...

source

...and some truly one of a kinds.

source

Some were world travelers...

source
source

...and others were more nature lovers.

source

Some looked introspective in their loneliness...

source

...and others looked more at peace.

source

Some expressed their individuality with a more disheveled look...

source

...and others, went for a more made-up and manicured presentation.

source

Some were all dolled up for a night on the town...

source

...others looked ready for a coffee shop outing or indie concert.

What I love the most...this little girl can wash it all away and start anew tomorrow : )

source

I believe I am falling onto the absolutely adorable side...how about you?
