The United States Botanic Garden

In all the years I have been visiting the capital, I have never visited the United States Botanic Garden...until this year.  It just so happened that we were circling the National Mall, looking for a place to park, when we found a few spaces available in front of the botanic garden. The intention was to go to the National Art Gallery, but I saw that the Botanic Garden was having an orchid exhibit, and I thought this was a perfect opportunity to see something I had never seen while visiting DC.  And it was beautiful.

The first botanic garden was built on the National Mall in 1820; a project championed by George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.   The botanic garden has now resided in it's permanent home since 1933.  If you have an opportunity to visit the Botanic Garden, it is well worth your while.  Be sure to check out their website to see what exhibits will be on display during your visit.
