Artist Spotlight: Isabella De Borchgrave

Isabella De Borchgrave is an artist from Brussels, Belgium, who creates the most magnificent gowns and accessories out of paper.  That's right...paper.  My friend Kelly sent me these photos from Isabella De Borchgrave's show Prêt-à-Papier: The Exquisite Art of Isabelle de Borchgrave currently on display at the Hillwood Estate in Washington DC.  Inspired by the fashion represented in European painitings, De Borchgrave has evolved from painter into a paper sculptor.  I am amazed by her attention to detail and the patience it must have taken to make simple rag paper look like such a wide variety of fabrics.

If you want to see this artwork in person, you will want to go soon.  The show at the Hillwood Estate runs through December 30th.

Here is a short video from the studio of Isabella De Borchgrave-
