Artist Spotlight: Heather Hansen

Heather Hansen is a New Orleans based performance artist who combines a piece of charcoal with the fluid motions of her body to create one of a kind pieces of artwork. Sitting in the middle of a huge piece of paper, she begins moving, and drawing at the same time.  It almost seems as if her body is made of charcoal and her every movement is being recorded on the paper.

I am amazed at the symmetry she is able to create from her movements. I would love to be in the room while she is working.  I can imagine that the dance she is performing would be so engrossing that it would be hard to remember that there is a piece of art to take away at the end of it.  Love it : )

When referring to the inspiration behind her work, Hansen quotes Joseph Campbell- "The goal of life is to make your heartbeats match the beat of the universe.  To match your nature with Nature."  Her work is currently on display at the Ochi Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho until March 31, 2014.
