For 24 years, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden has welcomed guests to stay in their one of a kind accommodations. The hotel is designed and constructed throughout the year and is built out of 1,000 tons of ice and 50,000 tons of "snice" (a mixture of snow and ice which provides stability to the structure of the hotel). The ice is harvested from the Torne river and put into cold storage until construction begins. Artists and designers from around the world create new and unique designs for the rooms each year. What I love is that the hotel changes every year, because it is made of ice. Therefore, you could go back every year, and you will not ever see the same hotel. LOVE it!
If you want to visit, accommodations range from 2000-13,500 sek ($300-$2000) a night. Most people only stay in the ice rooms for one night, and then stay for several days in the heated hotel rooms...for obvious reasons : ) I like to be warm & cozy on vacation, and I don't think the animal skins would cut it for me. Maybe, one day...
