Happy Easter!

The family and I are headed to Washington DC for the next few days.  I am hoping that the weather warms up soon, so we can enjoy the sights without being bundled up in our winter coats. The kids have done their research and made a list of things they want to see this year.  No matter how many times I go to DC, I always see something new.

Artist Spotlight: Julie Persons

Since we are fast approaching Easter, I thought this would be the perfect time to spotlight the light-hearted side of art.  Julie Persons'  series "Chicks in Hats" is absolutely adorable! From bowler...to beret...to top hat and veil, these chicks are going places.

A Saturday Song...

This weekend will be one of my busiest in recent history, but I am trying to approach it with a light-hearted sensibility.  What I need is a jump start to my day...something to get me in the mood...and since this weekend will be all about photography, I thought nothing would be better than "KodaChrome" by Paul Simon.

I love these sweet and simple treat bags- a great substitute for the traditional Easter egg.  Just untie the bow and the treats are revealed inside.  This is a easy craft you can do in very little time.  See detailed instructions here at Mermag.

One of my best friends gave me this necklace for my birthday this past year.  I love how simple and pretty it is.  It is light enough to wear every day, and pretty enough to be noticed every time that you do.  It would make a perfect Easter gift.  You can buy the necklace here. 

Stamped place cards...or should I say eggs

Such a pretty and easy to do place setting for Easter brunch.  You may already have everything you need to recreate this look- Spring colored napkins, some dyed eggs, greenery clippings and alphabet stamps.  Simple and beautiful. Bunny bread

Who knew refrigerated rolls and a pair of kitchen scissors could create such a cute addition to an Easter meal?  Snip ears into the top of the dough and use the point of the scissor blade to create the eyes.  As they cook, the edges will soften and the soft bunny roll will appear.  Image found here.

Artist Spotlight: Martin Sati

As a child, when I ran out of coloring pages, I would draw circles and swirls that overlapped each other, and then I would find the images that appeared to me and color them in.  When I came across the artwork of Martin Sati, I was reminded of this childhood practice of mine...and I was shown how it could be elevated into very sophisticated and lovely artwork.

I LOVE how fluid and soft these images are while being very bright and energetic.  There are distinct outlines, edges and borders...while there also seems to be no end to the images.  LOVE it!

AHHHHHHHH ! ! ! . . . it's the zombie run ! ! !

I don't know about you...but I can think of no better way to spend my day than running from zombies : )  Actually, I think I may be doing just that on May 19th-  The Zombie Run is coming to Charlotte... I can not wait!!!!

A friend and I ran in The Color Run in November, and I have been looking for the next fun run I would do, when I was told about the Zombie Run.  As soon as the words came out of my friend Vicky's mouth, I knew I had to do it.   I mean...seriously...how could I not?  Surprisingly, it has been a lot harder than I thought it would be to get people to join in my enthusiastic response to the news.  I will prevail though.  So...be on guard people...you may be receiving a phone call to join my team : )

The run begins with an overturned tanker- the source of the chemical causing the zombie invasion.


On the course, you will run through the military-controlled apocalypse zone and through the vaccination hydration center, all the while helicopters are hovering overhead and the military will try to hand out life saving face masks. Honestly...who would not want to participate?

If you don't want to run from zombies...maybe you would want to do the chasing instead- you can sign up as a runner, or you can choose to be a zombie.  As a zombie, you will get a professional makeover to help your transformation from run-of-the mill human into flesh-eating zombie. 

It all ends in the quarantine zone where the zombies and humans make nice...listen to music...eat some grub...and take some pictures together to commemorate the occasion.
